13th Annual Cuba Garlic Festival

It’s a stinky, yet delicious at the same time. One of life’s little pleasures for any hard-nose foodie. Come on out to Cuba’s Garlic Festival . . . you’ll have a stinkin’ good time!

Garlic . . . species in the onion genus. It has been used for thousands of years as a world-wide seasoning, as well as for medicinal purposes. 80% of all garlic comes from China. For the town of Cuba, in September each year, garlic is plentiful in all forms, and people by the thousands come to town for all of its enjoyment.

Its cloves can be eaten raw, pickled, or roasted. Some naysayers of garlic are put off simply because of the “stink” the beautiful bulbs emit when they are cooked, or after some have been eaten.

Empire City Farms (aka Cuba’s Block Barn) plays host to the festival each year. Its South Street, Route 305 location supplies plenty of room for the festival and parking. Cuba has become known far and wide as one of the best garlic festivals in all of New York State. Everything garlic can be found on the festival grounds, all forms from the garlic braids and single bulbs to pickled scapes and cloves.

Vendors provide a variety of prepared food offerings using garlic as an ingredient. So much garlic is used during this festival that at times it does permeate the air pretty well.

This year you will find food demonstrations from some of the top chefs in the area:

Chef Debra Burch of Alfred State College
Chef Joe Fusco of CA BOCES
Chef Matt Babbage of the Genesee Valley Food Truck
Chef Iacono of the Old Grey Hound Restaurant
Chefs McMurray and Taylor of Allegheny Hills Restaurant
