Cuba Dairy Festival June 15th and 16th

52nd Annual Cuba Dairy Festival

“Get Your Dairy On” in Cuba on June 15th and 16th

It’s hard to believe this year marks the 52nd year of Cuba having their dairy celebration, but then I guess time really does fly when you’re having fun—and this event is always a fun time.

Allegany County salutes the dairy industry through Cuba’s event. There’s probably no other childhood memories that we all remember from our youth growing up here than learning where our milk comes from. We are surrounded by dairy farms and have seen milk cows dotting our many hills and fields since we could mimic a “Moo”. There’s nothing cuter than a newborn calf as it makes its first stand—all little kids (and many adults) still smile at baby cows!

Cuba was once known as the place where the world cheese market prices came from. Cuba’s famous Old York Cheddar is still a popular favorite and is sold at the Cuba Cheese Shoppe. There’s even a Cheese Museum located on the ground floor of the Palmer Opera House on Cuba’s Main Street, just across from the giant American Flag that can be seen from every direction as you enter the town.

What was known as Cuba Dairy Week until the past couple of years, is now called Dairy Days and takes place only two days now. Sure, some things have changed, but there’s still plenty to see and do during those two days.
There’s still the giant parade, and this year they are hoping to make it bigger and better. The theme this year is “get your dairy on”. Your club, non-profit, fire department, ems, reenactment group, equestrian club, choir, dance studio, business, organization, church, school or something else can participate.

There is also a craft show that takes place on Elm Street on Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Another thing that goes on at the same time is a community-wide yard sale, so be sure to get there early for the best bargains.

You’ll probably be pretty hungry by the time you’ve done all the things going on. Don’t worry there’s plenty of food vendors and restaurants in town to choose your favorites.

You will need to pre-register for the parade or to be a vendor, and the forms can be found at the Cubanewyork.us/cuba-dairy-days.html website. Be sure to check there soon for more event information.
