The 2018 Allegany County Fair

“The Allegany County Fair lives up to its name ‘the Fair with a Country Smile’—it’s a family-fun happy experience you won’t soon forget!”

You will feel right at home at the Allegany County Fair. Known as “the fair with a country smile” the people you will meet there are friendly, and happy to help out with just about anything you wish to know about the fair or the county. It has been taking place for over 160 years, and it has something of interest for everyone of any age.

This year brings the Strates Shows to our neck of the woods for the ride attractions. It is also the first year of having two pre-view ride nights prior to the start of the fair. On Saturday and Sunday July 14th and 15th between 5PM and 10PM there is free admission to the fairgrounds, and a $12 pay-one-price wristband will be sold that allows participants to return to the Fair during Fair Week, Monday thru Thursday, for a free pay-one-price wristband with paid entry to the fairgrounds (a $6 fee). Pre-view wristbands that are undamaged and properly attached to the customer may be exchanged to the customer at the Strates Show Midway Office for a free daily ride wristband.

One of the treasures of the Allegany County Fair is the Shawmut Railroad cars. You can almost hear “All Aboard” from the Conductor of the exhibit as you leisurely tour the train. It has been restored to its glory days of riding the rails, and the information in the depot and within each car is rich in history. There is no other display of its kind in the area with as much inventory.

The Antique Equipment onsite still operates and will do so during Fair week. It will take you back in time of your grandparents and great grandparents when things got done, but took a little longer to accomplish.

It is a country fair and is filled with all of the things people have come to love. The Domestic Arts brings out the many talents of our residents, as does the talent show, the 4-H building, and the school exhibits.

New this year in the events is a Power Wheels Demolition Derby for the kids with those battery-operated rides they all love!
